High-quality medicine can only be achieved with continuous updated technologies. Supported by the Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale, the Cardiocentro Ticino Institute has recently completed the radical renovation of one of its operating theatres, equipping itself with an ultra-modern hybrid infrastructure. The presence of the most sophisticated imaging equipment will make it possible to offer the entire range of the most modern surgical and cardiac catheterisation procedures in complete safety and in the same operating theatre.

The hybrid operating rooms (Cardiocentro now has two of them, the first of which is mainly dedicated to interventional cardiology) represent the evolution of traditional operating theatres. An evolution that has been imposed by the dual push of technological innovation and, in the field of cardiology, of the consequent transformation of the three medical disciplines that specifically concern the heart – cardiology, cardiac surgery and cardiac anaesthesia – which are increasingly integrated and interconnected. Only in a strongly multidisciplinary context, the most modern therapies can be offered: increasingly less invasive surgery and increasingly effective cardiac procedures.

Patient care today involves very different types of intervention, in terms of both invasiveness and methodology, which can only be carried out with the support of equipment and technology, both in the operating phase and in the diagnostic phase, which is increasingly integrated and co-integrated with the former. A hybrid operating room offers all the possibilities of intervention and diagnostic technology in a single environment, with obvious advantages, especially in terms of patient safety.
