Thoracic surgery deals with oncologic and nononcologic surgery on the lungs, pleura, chest wall, and mediastinum, adopting the most innovative minimally invasive surgery techniques, including robotics and thoracoscopic technique.

What we treat
Lung cancer.
Lung metastases.
Tumors of the thymus: thymoma, carcinoma.
Thymic hyperplasia with myasthenia gravis.
Tumors of the mediastinum.
Tumors of the chest wall.
Pathologies of the pleura: infectious (empyema) or primary and secondary tumor diseases.
Chest wall malformation: excavated chest.
Pneumothorax: spontaneous and secondary.
Pulmonary emphysema: reduction in lung volume.
Hyperhidrosis.
Chest trauma: closed and/or open.
Hemothorax.
Major hemoptysis.
Diagnosis and treatment
Surgical activity is characterized by an approach ranging from minimally invasive (robot-Da Vinci, VATS, UVATS) to major surgeries (necessary in more advanced cases of disease-20% of cases).
The most frequent oncologic procedures on the lung are:
lobectomy, segmentectomy, bilobectomy, pneumonectomy, bronchial and vascular sleeve: for removal of lung tumors;
wedge: for removal of lung metastases.
