From the Swiss National Fund for Scientific Research (SNF) a grant over 2 million for a clinical study conceived and promoted by Prof. Valgimigli
The TITAN-PARADISE (TicIn for the Treatment of coronAry lesioNs – PlAque Regression AnD stabilISation with drug Eluting balloons) clinical study, designed by the deputy head of cardiology of the Cardiocentro Ticino Institute, Prof. Marco Valgimigli, was awarded the IICT (Investigator Initiated Clinical Trials) funding call from the SNF, for an amount of over 2 million francs.
The study – multicenter and randomized – will involve approximately 2 thousand patients over 5 years and is focused on the treatment of the so-called “Vulnerable plaques”, coronary lesions which present a high risk of evolving into acute myocardial infarction due to their composition.
In addition to the huge funding, the SNF’s decision represents a milestone for clinical research in EOC and in Ticino, as it is an extremely competitive call which for the first time rewards a researcher from Italian-Switzerland.
Equally important is the certification of the very high quality of the clinical research conducted at the Cardiocentro and in EOC, capable of satisfying to the highest degree the criteria required by the tender in terms of international network and organizational structure, the latter ensured by the partnership with the Clinical Trial Unit EOC of Lugano (Prof. Alessandro Ceschi) and with the CTU of Bern (Prof. Eva Segelov).
