7th Clinical Research Day of Southern Switzerland. A double recognition for Cardiocentro

The two recognitions - best presentation and best poster - show the commitment of Cardiocentro in cardiac research. The scientific strategy to grow in fundamental research is the only way to guarantee a better quality in cardiac disease treatments.

The event, sponsored by Università della Svizzera Italiana (USI) and Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale (EOC), took place last 10th March at the Aula Magna-USI. This 7th edition confirms its value as a precious moment of meeting and confronting over the future of scientific research in the medical field in Canton Ticino: first of all clinical research but also basic research, more and more involved in translational processes which impact therapies.

Roles of exosomes in cardioprotection. A review of Cardiocentro on the European Heart Journal

The understanding of the cell mechanisms and dynamics is crucial in order to open new therapeutic horizons. In this research effort, it seems increasingly clear the key role of exosomes (cell-derived vesicles), as structures involved in intercellular exchange processes.

In particular, exosomes released by cardiac progenitor cells seem to carry out a cardioprotective function, as well as to be able to improve cardiac function after myocardial infarction.

During a ceremony held on September 15th, the Academic Senate of the Universidad de San Pablo Tucuman, Argentina, awarded a degree honoris causa to Professor Angelo Auricchio, recognizing his leading role in the field of electrophysiology, the cardiology specialization that deals with the study of the heart's electrical conduction, the cure of its anomalies, and the electrical failures leading to arrhythmias. In conferring the degree, the Academic Senate pointed out the important contribution of Prof. Auricchio in the promotion and use of resynchronizationtherapies, in the prevention of sudden cardiac death, in the commitment for spreading in Argentina and throughout the South American continent of electrophysiology and its applications therapeutic and diagnostic.
